Years ago, when I first moved into my house, I noticed one of the trees had a bluntly cut branch. I was told that it was hit by lightning. My first thought was to trim the tree so it looked properly groomed. Since the branch was pretty big and would have required a special saw, I decided to leave it alone. Little did I know, this would soon be my favourite tree and the perfect home to a downy woodpecker family!
Why did I think everything in my yard had to be so perfect?
